Ours are woven from natural jute in a thicker, coarser weave than a standard kilim rug, which gives the rug the dense, warm feel that hemp fiber is known for. This is why the style is widely sold as a “hemp rug” even when the material underneath is jute. It is a small but important distinction, and one we want to be upfront about rather than let a name do the explaining.

Why it is called hemp when it is jute
This style is widely sold as a hemp rug because of its dense, warm feel, even though the fiber underneath is jute. We think a name should never do the explaining for a material, so we tell you plainly: these rugs are woven from natural jute in a thicker, coarser weave than our standard kilim.

Vacuum with gentle suction, working in the direction of the weave. Jute does not like water, so blot spills quickly with a dry or barely damp cloth and let the area air dry. Avoid wet cleaning, and keep the rug out of bathrooms and outdoor spaces. Turn it every few months.
