Instead of being woven flat on a loom, thick strands of natural jute are twisted into rope-like braids, then coiled and stitched together into a single oval-shaped rug. It’s a classic, cottage-style construction, and in our collection, it’s made exclusively in an oval shape rather than the rectangular formats used across our other rugs.

What Makes a Braided Rug Different
Where our other collections use a flat, woven pattern, a braided rug is built by hand from coiled rope. Long strands of jute are braided together, then wound into a spiral and stitched flat, one row at a time, until the full oval shape is complete. This gives the rug a raised, textured surface that looks and feels noticeably different from a flatweave kilim, hemp, or cotton rug.
Because of how it’s constructed, this style is made in oval and round shapes only in our collection, and in smaller, accent rug sizes rather than the large area rug dimensions available across our other collections.
